What Are Cannabis Concentrates?

Cannabis concentrates are products made by extracting the most desirable compounds from the cannabis plant — primarily THC, CBD, and terpenes — and removing plant material. The result is a highly potent product that can range from 50% to 90%+ THC, compared to 15–30% for most flower.

Because of their potency, concentrates are generally recommended for experienced cannabis users. First-time users should start with flower or low-dose edibles before exploring concentrates.

Types of Concentrates at OB1 Cannabis

Wax

Wax is one of the most common concentrate types. It has a soft, opaque texture similar to candle wax or earwax (hence the name). Wax is made using a solvent-based extraction process (typically butane or CO2) and is known for its high THC content and ease of use. It's a good starting point for concentrate beginners.

Shatter

Shatter is a translucent, glass-like concentrate that "shatters" when broken. It's made using a similar solvent-based process as wax but is purged more thoroughly, resulting in a harder, more stable product. Shatter is known for its purity and potency — typically 70–90% THC.

Live Resin

Live resin is made from cannabis that was flash-frozen immediately after harvest, before the plant has a chance to dry and cure. This preserves the full terpene profile of the living plant, resulting in a concentrate with exceptional flavor and aroma. Live resin is prized by connoisseurs for its complexity and is generally more expensive than wax or shatter.

Rosin

Rosin is unique because it's made without solvents. Instead, heat and pressure are applied to cannabis flower or hash to squeeze out the resinous oil. The result is a solventless concentrate that many consumers prefer for its purity and natural extraction process. Rosin tends to have a rich, full-spectrum flavor profile.

Distillate

Distillate is a highly refined cannabis oil that has been purified to isolate specific cannabinoids — usually THC or CBD.
